2024-04-23 - Never More Raven

Linocut is something I haven’t done since high school, but I had the opportunity to make art with a friend and chose to make a Poe-themed original piece.

A pencil drawing of a raven with its back facing to the viewer, looking back over its shoulder. The text “NEVER” at the top is drawn in the background with the “N” and “E” partially obscured by the raven’s head. The text “MORE” at the bottom in the foreground, is shown as white space on the lower half of the raven. The text has been drawn in mirror image so that when a print is made, it will be legible. Hereafter referred to as the “Never More Raven”.

A printout of the black-and-white digitized Never More Raven that has been taped to a piece of linoleum. The “M” and “O” and several other details have already been cut out.

A mirrored image of the completed linocut of the Never More Raven. Wooden handled carving tools, X-Acto blades in a small wooden case, and pieces of cut out lino surround.

The final print made during this session of the Never More Raven on a square piece of lime green paper. The ink almost has full coverage of the relief areas, but still has some empty spots to bring a little more variety and visual texture to the piece.

An iris surrounded by a black ring that has a highlight in the top left quadrant and the letters “jh” digitally handwritten centered on top. Four versions of the same logo: deep purple; vibrant green; high contrast natural green with dark brown center ring; natural light green with a light brown center ring.

2024-04-23 - Logo Update

New logos just dropped. I did some heavy digital modification to a picture of my eye in bright sunlight, got rid of the eyelid and turned it purple.

Other versions you may spot in the wild here: super-green, high-contrast, and natural (which has been used to cover up my real life signatures on the Never More Raven pictures in the post above). The purple version is being used as the website Favicon and Logo in the header banner.

2024-04-20 - Leather Jacket & Satchel

My leather jacket needed some TLC and an old hoodie graphic needed a new home after the zipper failed.

A leather jacket spread out on the ground on a piece of cardboard. The arms have been taken off and are resting nearby. Chains weave in and out of eyelets that circle the arm holes. One of the chains has been reattached. The other is resting on the cardboard next to two pairs of pliers. There is a jar of dye balm and bottle of leather cleaner.

A black leather jacket with a Joan Jett graphic that is in the process of being sewn on with a heavy duty Singer sewing machine. The first line has been made along the top edge of the fabric and the foot is back at the starting position in the top-left corner.

The back of a black leather jacket that has the arms attached again resting on a mannequin. A Joan Jett graphic is sewn on. The leather dye has been recently refreshed, and with a second coat of acrylic sealant, it is looking vibrant and shiny.

A black leather satchel with matching straps and silver-coloured metal attachment points and hardware, resting on the top of a carpeted cat tree. The satchel has been re-dyed and an acrylic sealant applied and is looking vibrant and shiny. A Darth Vader light saber keychain (a defunct laser pointer) has been attached to one of the zippers.

Both Images Date & Alt Text: 2024-04-13

The first image is a drawing rendered in blue pen on paper on 2024-04-13, over the course of about 30 minutes.
The second is a picture of the gravestone that was used as reference.
Gravestone from about a 45-degree angle perspective on the corner, showing two faces. The stone has a square base which rises and tapers up into a tall straight obelisk-like shape. There are are rounded corners and edges in this base that blend into the stone quite nicely.
On one face of the tall section, the text “IN MEMORY OF” has been drawn. “www.jeklynhyde.com” has been digitally added underneath.
The corners of the tall edges are beveled and terminate at the top with what appears to the likeness of a tassel. From here the corners arc upward toward each other and peak in the middle of the faces of the stone on all sides. A short cube meets these peaks at the top at a 45-degree angle to the faces of the stone. The top of the stone has a rounded and contoured piece that appears to have partially broken off.

2024-04-14 - ACLU ROCKS

I found a "VIRGINTIY ROCKS" lanyard on the side of the road… It needed improvement. Click the link to read more about this project.

A pumpkin that has been carved to look like Jenny Park’s chibi Mollymauk Tealeaf. The lights are out in the room, the outside of the pumpkin is dark, the light from inside casts a warm orange glow through the varying layers of pumpkin flesh.
