Sticky Notes & Intentions
(Part III of IV)

Read Time: 6 Minutes
When tasks are incomplete, the key is to add them to the next day, or add them to a separate list so as to not get overwhelmed by too many open goals. Things that don't need to happen now can be tracked elsewhere and be used as a source when you find yourself looking for something to do.
Sticky Notes & Intentions (Part III of IV)
By the way, the title of these posts is a running joke. The Part x of x+1 will always be +1, because when you're setting intentions daily, there will always be more intentions to work on.
So. Here are some intentions that I've set recently and status / notes.
Image Date & Alt Text: 2023-08-17
A square note on top of a notepad. Handwritten text on the note
- 1/2 Figure out sleep schedule & go to bed on-time
+ Walk for 30 min
-> Notes for Bazooka K
+ Take circumferences
On the notepad, a detailed rundown of various bed and sleep times running off the assumption that natural sleep cycles last about an hour and a half. Times have been provided for bedtimes by the hour from 10 pm to 2 am, and three sleep durations and their respective wake times.
The key (for me) when tasks are incomplete is to add them to the next day (and don't beat myself up too much), or add them to a separate list (so I don't get overwhelmed by too many open goals). Or if there are things you know don't need to happen now, you can track them in another place where you can pull from when you find yourself looking for something to do.
Walk 30 minutes
Every day I write this, and every day I've managed to keep up with it, one day replacing it with an even more significant bike ride, my first in probably over a decade. The point is to get in a minimum of 30 minutes of on-purpose exercise. (... and now I know I need a new bike)
My watch has been telling me I'm "Overreaching" since the 18th when I did the bike ride, but I don't trust it. Walking 30-minutes a day is not overreaching.
Figure out sleep schedule & go to bed on time.
This part I marked as half complete because I am still having trouble getting myself to bed on time. This will be a continual progress goal.
Put Laundry Away
It took me a couple days but it got done. Clean laundry usually spends its life on my bed as a cuddle buddy until I wear it and it makes its way back into the basket.
For Saturday I only wrote one "Walk 30 min" and left the rest of the day open to get whatever was needed done.
I prepped meals for the week plus lots of extra servings frozen for days when I run out of prepared meals.
I made dinner for my family (spiced, hand-formed Bison Burgers).
I did some more work on my CG project.
I cleared out my laptop in preparation to get it reformatted and reinstall Ubuntu - I ran into some technical issues so I wasn't able to make much progress, but I got the files off of it, clean and ready for the reinstall.
Play a VR game
For Sunday, I had prepped my goals in advance. One of them was to spend some time having fun!
I actually tracked my game time. I spent 1h13m in Bear Saber and my watch tells me I burned 644 calories, and 1 hour even in Synth Riders for another 325 calories.
I bet I'll see diminishing returns for these (the better you get at exercises, the more efficient your body becomes at performing them, thus less calories consumed), but for comparison, my watch tells me that I burn about 200 calories for 30 minutes of walking.
Talk to 3 people.
I'm not very social, and talking to people in my household doesn't count. I need a reminder sometimes to make sure I respond to people, or progress conversations.
Brush Teeth & Floss
I don't brush my teeth every day. I'm gross. I'm lucky if it's once a week. I like to joke that I save a lot of money on not having to buy toothpaste or brush heads. This is a very long-term lack of a good habit. This is one of the things that I think other people don't have trouble getting themselves to do - they just do it. For me, it's a struggle. I've been improving a little over the last year before my last dentist visit. I'd been doing well enough that I finally added "Floss Sometimes" to my mouth hygiene goal.
Funny enough, I fully admit to my dental hygienist that I am lucky if I can remember it once a week, and they keep telling me that I have excellent teeth and that I am very lucky that I have a strong mouth biome of bacteria that help to keep my teeth healthy. It helps that I don't like candy too much and don't really drink pop anymore, so I don't have to contend so much with sugar rot.
No phone after 11 pm. Bedtime by 11:30.
You're supposed to make your sleeping area as conducive to sleep as possible. That means having it be a single purpose space (or maybe dual purpose including sexy time). If you train your mind to think being in bed means being on the phone, then you're going to have all kinds of phone thoughts when you should be winding down and going to sleep. So I'm trying to train myself back out of that bad habit and only allow myself to read physical books once I'm in bed. This will also help me progress an older goal that I set of finishing reading a book that I've been borrowing for several years.
Deposit Check
Incomplete. I got a reimbursement in the mail. I made a motorcycle trip of it after work one day, but the machine would not recognize the check. I'm going to need to go again. I determined I'll go on Saturday since the bank is only open in the morning, which means I'll need to get my ass out of bed early, and then I can hit up groceries and then do meal prep when I get back.
Make a blog post
At least one of the days I had set this as my intention, but I wasn't able to get to actually working on it because I ended up working too late for my day job. The task was delayed to the next day.
Search Rigify cleanup; Clean up rig
Incomplete. This has been on my list for two days now. I worked late again and stiffed myself out of free time in the evening (though I paused work long enough to get my walk in). The upside is that I will get to log out early on Friday and have the afternoon to put to my own uses. Like a little mini long weekend.
